Wildcats Set Scoring Record, Celebrate Hartman’s Hall of Fame Induction, and Showcase Hot Offense
kansas State men’s basketball is off to a blazing start, recently breaking the school record for points scored at the T-Mobile Center with a 98-point performance. Senior Tylor Perry led the charge with 25 points, supported by Nate Johnson (14 points) and Abdi Bashir Jr. (12 points). This victory surpasses the previous record of 87 points set in 2007.
The program is also celebrating the upcoming induction of legendary head coach Jack Hartman into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of fame. Hartman, who amassed a school-record 295 wins during his 16-year tenure (1970-86), becomes the sixth K-State representative in the Hall of Fame. He joins fellow K-State inductees Jack Gardner,Tex Winter,lon Kruger,rolando Blackman,and Bob Boozer.
During his time at K-State, Hartman achieved three Big Eight regular-season titles, two Big Eight Tournament championships, and nine postseason appearances. His teams consistently performed at a high level, recording 20 or more wins seven times and reaching the NCAA Tournament seven times, including four Elite Eight appearances. He coached ten All-Americans, five Big Eight Players of the Year, and 16 first-team All-Big Eight selections, mentoring future pros like rolando Blackman, Mike Evans, and lon Kruger.
The Wildcats’ offensive prowess is a key factor in thier early success. Through the first five games, K-State is averaging 94.4 points per game, shooting 53.8% from the field and 45.9% from three-point range. Their 472 points through five games are the most in program history, surpassing the 1991-92 team. The team’s recent 99-point outing against Cal marked their third consecutive 90-point performance, a feat not achieved as the 1989-90 season. K-State is the first Big 12 team to begin a season with consecutive games of at least 90 points since 1992.

Here are the latest notes on the Kansas State men’s basketball team, heading into their game against Nebraska.
THREE WILDCATS SCORE 20+
- Against Bellarmine on Nov.8, Kansas State saw three players – senior Arthur Kaluma (23 points), senior Tylor Perry (21 points), and senior Nate Johnson (20 points) – all score 20 or more points.
- It’s the first time since December 29, 2017, that three Wildcats have each reached 20 points in a game; Dean Wade (34 points), Kamau Stokes (23 points), and Barry Brown Jr. (21 points) accomplished the feat against iowa State on that date.
McGRIFF, CASTILLO GO PERFECT
- Senior Khamari McGriff and sophomore David Castillo were both perfect from the field in the 98-71 win over Bellarmine on November 8, becoming the 24th and 25th players in school history to achieve this on 5 or more field goal attempts. They’re the first teammates to do it in the same game.
- Castillo had a career-high 19 points, shooting 7-of-7 including 5-of-5 from the 3-point line. McGriff added 16 points, making all 8 of his field goal attempts. Castillo is only the eighth Wildcat to shoot 5-for-5 from beyond the arc; interestingly, his high school coach, Clent Stewart, was in attendance.
NOTES ON NEBRASKA
- Nebraska, led by seventh-year head coach Fred Hoiberg, has started the season 5-0.They’ve secured home wins against West Georgia (86-53),FIU (96-66),and UMES (69-50),and neutral-site victories over Oklahoma (105-99) in Sioux Falls,S.D., and a recent 84-72 win over New Mexico.
- The Cornhuskers return 5 players, including starters Berke Buyuktuncel and Rienk Mast, from a team that won 21 games last season, including the inaugural College Basketball Crown.
