Kansas State Hosts West Virginia in Final Home Game

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State (11-18, 2-14 Massive 12) concludes its home schedule on Tuesday night, hosting West Virginia (17-12, 8-8 Big 12) at Bramlage Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 7:01 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ESPN+, with Ben Boyle, Stan Weber, Sophie Smith, and Hannah Whetstone on the call. This matchup is the second of three consecutive games against repeat opponents to close out the regular season, as K-State will travel to face No. 14/15 Kansas (21-8, 11-5 Big 12) on Saturday.

Recent Matchup

The Wildcats lost the first meeting against West Virginia, 59-54, on January 27th. K-State led 49-45 with 3:38 remaining, but a late surge led by West Virginia senior Treysen Eaglestaff, who scored 8 of his 12 points in the final minutes, secured the Mountaineers’ comeback victory. K-State had two opportunities to tie the game in the last 22 seconds, but a layup attempt by P.J. Haggerty was blocked, and a subsequent 3-point attempt with 10 seconds left missed its mark.

West Virginia’s Momentum

West Virginia revitalized its postseason hopes with a 79-71 victory over No. 19/23 BYU on Saturday, ending a three-game losing streak and leveling its Big 12 record to 8-8. The Mountaineers boast one of the nation’s top scoring defenses, allowing just 64.7 points per game, ranking ninth nationally and second in the Big 12. Senior Honor Huff leads the team in scoring with an average of 15.7 points per game.

Coaching Change at K-State

On February 15th, Kansas State parted ways with fourth-year head coach Jerome Tang, who finished with a 71-57 record. Associate head coach Matthew Driscoll was named interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Driscoll brings extensive head coaching experience, with 275 wins in 20 seasons, including a school-record 248 wins in 16 years at North Florida.

Driscoll’s Debut Victory

Driscoll secured a win in his debut as interim head coach, leading K-State to a 90-74 victory over Baylor on February 17th, becoming only the second interim head coach in school history to win their first game and the first in nearly 20 years.
