A Virginia Beach man received an eight-year federal prison sentence on Thursday for running a cocaine distribution operation, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Federal Cocaine Distribution Case in Virginia Beach

U.S. District Judge Raymond A. Jackson handed down the 96-month sentence at the federal courthouse in Norfolk. According to court documents and statements made in court, the defendant utilized his residence and local properties to store and distribute multi-kilogram quantities of cocaine across the Hampton Roads region.

Federal prosecutors stated that the investigation involved coordinated surveillance and controlled drug purchases conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) alongside the Virginia Beach Police Department. Law enforcement agents executed search warrants that yielded wholesale quantities of cocaine, cutting agents, and digital scales used in the trafficking ring.

Sentencing Guidelines and Mandatory Minimums

Under federal sentencing guidelines for narcotics distribution, defendants possessing large quantities face significant prison terms depending on prior criminal history and drug weight calculations. Assistant U.S. Attorney prosecuted the case, arguing that the volume of narcotics distributed warranted a substantial term of incarceration to deter similar offenses in the local community.

Following the completion of the eight-year prison term, the defendant will be placed on supervised release for a period of four years, according to the court’s judgment order. The case forms part of ongoing federal and local enforcement efforts targeting mid-to-high-level drug trafficking organizations operating within coastal Virginia.
