Chungnam Development Corporation Establishes New Women’s Handball Team
The Chungnam Development Corporation has announced the formation of a new women’s handball team, aiming to revitalize local sports and cultivate handball talent in the Chungcheongnam-do province. The announcement was made on March 10, 2026, with the team’s inaugural ceremony held at the corporation’s conference room.
Leadership and Coaching Staff
The team will be led by Director Kang Jae-won and Coach Kim Cha-yeon. Kang Jae-won brings a wealth of experience, having previously coached the Korean men’s handball team to a silver medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and the women’s national team to the semifinals of the 2012 London Olympics and the quarterfinals of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Kim Cha-yeon, a key player for the national team and a standout pivot, will leverage her experience to guide and develop younger players.
Team Composition and Future Plans
The newly formed squad currently consists of seven players, with plans to expand the roster to 16 in the future. Chungnam Development Corporation intends for the team to participate in competitions such as the National Sports Festival and the H-League, as well as engage in youth player development initiatives.

Kim Byung-geun, President of Chungnam Development Corporation, emphasized the corporation’s commitment to the local community and providing a stable environment for the athletes. He stated the team’s creation is a way to connect more closely with residents and inject new energy into the region. The corporation has pledged generous support to allow athletes to focus solely on their training and performance.

The founding ceremony included the introduction of the team, the presentation of awards, the signing of commemorative balls and uniforms, and a group photo. The event marked a significant step towards the growth of handball in South Korea.
