Karl Urban Reveals a Billy Butcher Moment Too Extreme for ‘The Boys’ TV Series

Karl Urban, the actor portraying Billy Butcher in Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys, recently shared a comic book storyline he wished had made it to the screen – a plan involving a vibrator and an exploding jet. The revelation came during a fan question at Emerald City Comic Con 2026, as reported by Popverse.

Butcher’s Explosive Plan

Urban explained that in the original comic series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, Butcher devises a plan to destroy a jet by planting an explosive device inside a vibrator. While he found the idea to be a testament to Butcher’s cunning and resourcefulness, the scene was ultimately deemed too graphic for the television adaptation.

“In the comic books, Butcher blows up a jet by planting an explosive device in a vibrator. I would have liked to see Butcher do that in the show. Sadly, that did not happen. I get why. We already had one exploding jet in the Homelander part of the show in season 1, so maybe too many jets exploding, but I would have loved to have seen that. I think that shows a particular kind of acumen and smarts from Butcher to be able to do that, and that always struck me as something that would be particularly fun,” Urban said.

Homelander’s Plane Incident

The show The Boys already features a dramatic plane-based scene in its first season, where Homelander and Queen Maeve are forced to confront a hijacking situation. Homelander’s callous disregard for the passengers’ lives during this incident cemented his villainous status. The show’s creators may have been hesitant to include another exploding jet scene, fearing it would diminish the impact of the original.

The Final Season

As The Boys prepares for its fifth and final season in 2026, fans are eager to see if the show can deliver a conclusion as impactful as its earlier moments. The series, adapted from the comic book created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, initially published by WildStorm and later by Dynamite Entertainment, is known for its gritty and violent portrayal of superheroes Popverse.

The character Homelander, also known as John Gillman, is a central figure in both the comic and television series, depicted as a psychopathic narcissist and leader of The Seven Wikipedia.
