Roy Keane remains Skeptical of Michael Carrick as Permanent Manchester United Manager

Roy Keane, the former Manchester united captain, has tempered enthusiasm surrounding the team’s recent resurgence under interim manager Michael Carrick, asserting that two victories are insufficient grounds for considering him a long-term solution. Speaking to Sky Sports following United’s win against Arsenal, Keane acknowledged the positive shift in performance but emphasized the need for sustained success before evaluating Carrick’s suitability for the permanent role.

Keane highlighted the significance of United’s victories, particularly against Manchester city adn now Arsenal, noting the team’s growing momentum and improved confidence. “As we certainly know, winning one or two games with Manchester United is fantastic, especially beating City,” Keane stated. “Coming to Arsenal, I felt Man United would get a positive result today, at least a draw, but I was always sure they would do well. They have enough quality players and are now starting to gain momentum. Suddenly Man United have a big chance of finishing in the top four.If they play with confidence and belief like this, then credit must be given to the manager and his staff and also the players.”

Though, when directly questioned about whether Carrick had earned the right to be considered for the permanent managerial position, Keane delivered a firm rebuttal.”don’t be ridiculous,” he responded. “Two great performances, but anyone can win two games. What matters is what he does until the end of the season. Even if they finish in the top four, I’m still not sure he’s the right man for the job. Absolutely not.I think Man United need a bigger and better manager.”

Despite his reservations, Keane conceded that Carrick is capitalizing on a significant opportunity. “But this is a big opportunity for him and he’s making the most of it,so hats off to him,” he added, acknowledging the interim manager’s positive impact in the short term.

Keane’s comments underscore the high standards and expectations at Manchester United, suggesting that a sustained period of success will be required to convince him – and potentially the club’s hierarchy – that Carrick is the right man to lead the team forward.
