Kennesaw State Women’s Tennis Defeats UAB in Close Contest

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Kennesaw State women’s tennis secured a 4-3 victory over UAB on Friday afternoon at the UAB Tennis Courts, with Sofia Madrid clinching the match on court two.

Owls Battle to Victory

“This was another great battle today against a highly strong UAB team on the road,” said KSU director of tennis Matt Emery. “We will enjoy this one and come out ready to fight at home on Sunday against a great Furman team.”

Despite dropping the doubles point to the Blazers, Kennesaw State rallied to win four of six singles matches.

Freshman Performances Shine

“We had a very strong effort in singles today by our freshmen, Rianna Coreisa and Maria Ivankovic,” Emery noted.

Coreisa earned her first collegiate singles win with a straight-set victory (6-2, 6-2) on court six. Ivankovic also secured a straight-set win (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) on court three.

Key Singles Wins Seal the Deal

Ema Baraniakova contributed another straight-set win (6-2, 6-4) on court one, while Madrid ultimately clinched the match for the Owls on court two.

Madrid won her first set 6-2, lost the second set in a tiebreaker, and then rebounded with a decisive 6-2 victory in the third set. “Sofia has about as much heart and will as any Owl to put on a KSU uniform,” Emery said.
