Kentucky Men’s Golf Finishes Seventh at Linger Longer Invitational
EATONTON, Ga. – The Kentucky men’s golf team concluded play at the Linger Longer Invitational on Sunday, finishing seventh among 18 teams at the Great Waters Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee. The Wildcats carded a 2-over par team score in the final round, bringing their tournament total to 3-under par. This marks the fourth tournament this season, and the third consecutive spring event, in which Kentucky has finished under par as a team.
Tournament Recap
Head coach Gator Todd noted, “We didn’t have our best stuff and you require it on a demanding test like Great Waters. We’ll learn from it and be better before the Mason Rudolph.”
Sophomore Jacob Settles led Kentucky in the third round with a 3-under par 69, highlighted by three consecutive birdies on holes two, three, and four. This performance propelled him up the leaderboard, finishing tied for 37th at 1-over par for the week.
“Settles really stepped up the last two rounds for us,” Coach Todd added.
Freshman Cole Stockard also posted a red number on Sunday, shooting a 2-under 70 with four birdies. He ended the tournament as Kentucky’s top finisher, tying for 27th at 1-under par. Stockard now leads the team with 11 rounds under par this season.
Fellow freshman Cameron Phillips, making his first appearance in the starting lineup, tied for 29th at even par. He led the Wildcats with 15 birdies throughout the tournament, ranking tied for seventh most in the field.
Both Stockard and Phillips finished under par on par-3 holes, achieving a feat accomplished by only 11 players in the tournament.
“I’m proud of our freshman, Cole and Cam, for leading us this week,” said Todd.
Senior Jack Schoenberger tied for 45th at 4-over par after a final round of 77. Sophomore Jacob Lang contributed to the team score in round three with a 74 (+2), finishing the week tied for 79th at 9-over par.
UK’s individual competitors, Luke Coyle and Gavin Clutts, both finished tied for 57th at 5-over par. Coyle recorded the lone eagle for the Wildcats during the tournament, carding a two on the par-4, No. 11, in the third round.
