kim Petras Accuses Label of Lack of Support Following Grammy Win,Announces New Album “Detour”

Kim Petras has publicly criticized her record label,Republic Records, alleging a lack of support despite winning a Grammy Award for her collaboration with Sam Smith,”Unholy.” The singer voiced her frustrations on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, stating, “I won a grammy 2 years ago……..the music is TEA. Still no support.”

The situation unfolded after Petras expressed disappointment with the label’s handling of her recent singles, including “Freak It” and “Polo,” and her latest full-length LP, Problematic, released in 2023. she announced her intention to release a new album, Detour, independently of the label, writing, “My fans have waited long enough. I love u guys. I’m dropping Detour regardless.” She shared a blurred image of the album’s tracklist on X,adding,”Music to my ears.”

Kesha, who settled a lengthy legal battle with her former producer Dr. Luke in 2023 and subsequently launched her own record label, Kesha Records, responded to Petras’s posts. Kesha wrote on X,”I spent many years fighting for the rights to myself. Watching another woman realize that the ‘golden cage’ is still a cage isn’t a victory-it’s a tragedy we have to stop repeating. Freedom isn’t a priviledge; it’s a birthright. I hear you, I’m sorry Kim.”

Petras’s Grammy win for “Unholy” marked a historic moment as she became the first openly transgender woman to win a Grammy in a major category. She had previously released the single “I Like Ur Look” in October 2023.

As of this writing, Republic Records has not issued a public response to Petras’s allegations.
