Kevin Durant Dismisses Burner Account Allegations as ‘Twitter Nonsense’

Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant has addressed the recent allegations surrounding alleged burner accounts used to criticize teammates and former colleagues, dismissing the controversy as “Twitter nonsense.” The claims surfaced over the weekend during the NBA All-Star Game, originating from screenshots of posts from an X (formerly Twitter) account with the handle @gethigher77.

Durant’s Response

During the Rockets’ first practice following the All-Star break on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, Durant was questioned by reporters about the alleged burner account. He responded, “I know you got to ask these questions but I’m not here to get into Twitter nonsense. I’m just here to focus on the season, maintain it pushing.” ClutchPoints and The Athletic both reported on Durant’s comments.

When asked if he had discussed the matter with his Houston teammates, Durant stated, “My teammates know what it is. We’ve been locked in the whole season. Enjoyed our break. Had a great practice today, looking forward to the road trip.”

The Allegations

The screenshots circulating online allegedly show posts from the @gethigher77 account criticizing Rockets teammates Alperen Şengün and Jabari Smith Jr., as well as referencing former teammates like James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and Ben Simmons. Fox 26 Houston detailed the controversy, noting the account has since been set to private.

Durant’s History with Burner Accounts

This isn’t the first time Durant has been linked to burner accounts. Suspicions date back to 2017, when he sent tweets from his personal Twitter account in a third-person voice explaining his decision to leave Oklahoma City. He later apologized for those tweets, calling them “stupid.” The Athletic highlighted this past incident.

In 2023, Durant announced he was using a burner account on Threads, challenging fans to uncover him. He too admitted to previously using burner accounts to engage with online communities and respond to criticism.

Focus Remains on the Season

Despite the social media firestorm, Durant remains focused on the remainder of the NBA season with the Houston Rockets. He emphasized the team’s unity and preparation for their upcoming road trip.
