Kings’ Kevin Fiala Season Ends After Olympic Injury

Milan, Italy – Los Angeles Kings forward Kevin Fiala will miss the remainder of the 2025-2026 NHL season after suffering a leg injury during Switzerland’s Olympic hockey game against Canada on February 14, 2026. The injury required surgery and the Kings confirmed Fiala will be re-evaluated at the end of the NHL season.

Injury Details and Surgery

Fiala sustained the injury during a collision with Canadian forward Tom Wilson late in the third period of the game. He was stretchered off the ice, prompting concern from both teams, with Canadian players tapping their sticks in support as he was removed. CBS News reports that Fiala underwent surgery on Saturday for fractures in his left leg.

Impact on the Kings and Olympics

The loss of Fiala is a significant blow to both Switzerland’s Olympic aspirations and the Kings’ playoff push. Prior to the injury, Fiala was a key offensive contributor for the Kings, recording 18 goals and 40 points in 56 games this season. MSN highlights that he was second on the team in goals and assists before the arrival of Artemi Panarin.

Kings teammate Adrian Kempe expressed his disappointment, stating, “It sucks for him and for us. It’s really tough for him personally and for us as a team. You know how much he means to our team back home in L.A.”

Fiala’s Response

Fiala addressed the injury on his Instagram account, stating, “This is definitely not the end I imagined for my first Olympics. Thank you all so much for your support, which I really appreciate. And I wish my team the best of luck for the rest of the tournament. Go Switzerland!”

Previous Injury History

Yahoo Sports notes that Fiala previously suffered a similar injury in 2017 while playing for the Nashville Predators, sustaining a fracture in his left femur that also required surgery.

Wilson’s Reaction

Tom Wilson expressed his regret over the incident, stating, “It was unfortunate. He’s a fighter and I’m so sorry he won’t be able to play in the Olympics anymore. I’m thinking of him and his family. You never want to see someone not play in a tournament like this. It’s a loss for their team and I wish him a speedy recovery.”

Kings’ Playoff Position

As of February 16, 2026, the Kings hold the 9th position in the Western Conference standings. Fiala’s absence will undoubtedly impact their chances of securing a playoff berth.
