Kevin Nash Apologizes for Offensive Remarks About WWE Star Je’Von Evans
WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash has issued a public apology for comments he made about rising WWE star Je’Von Evans on his podcast, ‘Kliq This.’ The controversy stemmed from Nash’s critique of Evans’ character and presentation, which included the use of language widely considered offensive.
Initial Comments and Criticism
During the podcast, Nash praised Evans’ athleticism and in-ring skills, stating he “does everything good.” However, he expressed a desire to witness Evans portray a more intense and edgy persona. Nash commented that Evans was “a little bit too f***ing Mr. Bojangles for me. I wish he was a little bit more urban.”
These remarks quickly drew criticism from fans on social media, who deemed the language used insensitive and racially charged.
Nash’s Apology
Responding to the backlash, Nash took to social media on February 18, 2026, to apologize for his comments. He acknowledged that his choice of words was “in poor taste and obviously offensive.”
In his apology, Nash referenced the historical context of the term “Uncle Tom,” explaining its degrading origins and the tragic fate of the character in literature. He reiterated that his criticism was directed at the creative direction of Evans’ character, not a personal attack.
“How often have you heard the term Uncle Tom? Most likely, it was used in a degrading way. If you’ve actually read the literature, Uncle Tom was whipped to death for helping free two female slaves. I apologize for the use of the term Mr. Bogangles, it was in poor taste and obviously offensive,” Nash posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Further Explanation and Creative Vision
Nash further clarified his perspective, suggesting that Evans should be presented as “the male version of Sol Ruca,” a more contemporary character. He also noted his belief that he is often one of the few voices paying attention to the development of Black talent within WWE.
Evans recently achieved a significant victory on Raw, defeating Dominik Mysterio and Gunther in a qualifying match for the Elimination Chamber, indicating a prominent role for him on the road to WrestleMania 42.
