Kevin Spacey Avoids Latest Trial with Out-of-Court Settlement

Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey has settled out of court with three men who accused him of sexual assault in a UK civil suit, averting a new trial. The suits, filed in London’s High Court, involved alleged incidents between 2000 and 2015, during Spacey’s tenure as artistic director at the Old Vic theatre.

Details of the Settlement

Actor Ruari Cannon, who waived his right to anonymity, along with two other complainants who wished to remain anonymous, brought the civil suit against Spacey. Judge Christina Lambert initially ruled for a provisional hearing in October 2024, but on March 13, 2026, she froze proceedings after the parties reached a settlement agreement. The terms of the settlement remain confidential, and no order was made regarding costs .

Previous Legal Battles

This settlement follows Spacey’s acquittal in 2023 of a number of criminal sexual charges alleged by four men following a trial in London . Cannon was not involved in the 2023 criminal case. He had previously settled a separate case against the Old Vic theatre earlier in March 2026.

Background on the Allegations

The allegations against Spacey first surfaced in 2017, beginning with claims made by Anthony Rapp, who alleged a sexual advance by Spacey in 1986 . Following Rapp’s allegations, fifteen others came forward with similar accusations, including claims of inappropriate behavior towards young men although Spacey was artistic director of The Old Vic. Netflix subsequently cut ties with Spacey, shelving projects and removing him from the final season of House of Cards.

Spacey’s Career Impact

Spacey, 66, has consistently denied any wrongdoing. The allegations significantly impacted his career, but he was found not liable in a 2020 civil suit brought by Anthony Rapp, and was awarded costs . Despite the legal challenges, Spacey continues to work in the entertainment industry.
