Khamenei Warns Trump: Iran Won’t Be Toppled
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has asserted that the United States will fail in any attempt to overthrow the Islamic Republic, as negotiations between Iranian and U.S. Representatives continue in Switzerland. The comments represent a direct challenge to recent rhetoric from U.S. President Donald Trump.
“The US president said in one of his recent remarks that for 47 years America has been unable to eliminate the Islamic Republic; he complained about it to his own people. For 47 years, America has not been able to eliminate the Islamic Republic. That is a good admission,” Khamenei stated on Tuesday, addressing people from East Azerbaijan province according to APA. “I say: You, too, will not be able to do this.”
Trump’s Regime Change Remarks
Khamenei’s remarks followed statements by President Trump suggesting that regime change in Iran “would be the best thing that could happen.”
Warning to the U.S. Military
The Supreme Leader also cautioned against underestimating Iran’s ability to inflict damage, even on the world’s most powerful military. “The strongest army in the world may at times receive such a slap that it cannot rise,” Khamenei warned.
Nuclear Talks Underway
These statements approach as Iranian and U.S. Negotiators are engaged in mediated talks in Geneva, seeking a potential nuclear deal. The Times of Israel reports that Khamenei’s warning was issued as these talks began. Al Arabiya also reported on Khamenei’s warning to Trump.
Previous Statements
Earlier, Khamenei told President Trump, “You also won’t be able to depose the Islamic Republic.” and Eghtesad Online reported similar statements from the Supreme Leader, stressing that Trump cannot eliminate the Islamic Republic.
