Kharkiv Transport Disrupted After Overnight Drone Strike and Power Outages
Russian forces launched a drone attack on Kharkiv early on October 26, 2026, striking the city’s Kholodnohirskyi district with a Shahed loitering munition at approximately 3:20 a.m. and triggering disruptions across local electrical grids and municipal transit networks.
On October 25, a separate structural fire in a six-story residential building in Kharkiv’s Industrial District killed one resident and injured five others after breaking out at 6:06 p.m. Emergency rescue teams deployed 30 firefighters and eight specialized vehicles to extinguish flames that engulfed several fifth-floor apartments, evacuating eight residents from the heavy smoke.
Municipal Transit Adjustments and Temporary Bus Routes
Electrical supply instability caused by the recent attacks halted key segments of Kharkiv’s ground electric transit network, according to announcements from the Kharkiv City Council. Tram line number 3 was restricted to run only between the “Novozhanovo” loop and the “Kharkiv-Pasazhyrskyi” railway station, while trams on Poltavskyi Shliakh street—specifically between the “Zalyutyno” loop and Yevhena Kotliara street—were suspended entirely. Trolleybus operations along Kholodnohirska and Dudynska streets stopped, and route 27 was taken out of service.
To bridge the gaps in the electric transit network, municipal authorities deployed temporary shuttle buses. Replacement buses are running from the “Zalyutyno” tram loop to the “Kharkiv-Pasazhyrskyi” station and along the former path of trolleybus route 27, while trolleybus route 11 is gradually returning to regular service after morning bus substitution.
Energy Grid Restrictions and Repair Efforts
The transit disruptions stem directly from damage inflicted on the unified energy system of Ukraine, according to Volodymyr Skychko, head of information policy and consumer relations at JSC “Kharkivoblenergo.” While additional emergency restrictions on electricity consumption were temporarily lifted, scheduled hourly blackouts remain active across the Kharkiv region to stabilize the damaged grid.

City officials and utility operators urge residents to maintain strict electricity conservation to ease the load on the grid. Municipal departments note that standard bus lines continue to operate on normal schedules, though commuters relying on the metro and remaining electric transit lines should anticipate intermittent delays.
Additional Transit Routes and Schedule Alterations
Municipal transport adjustments also affected several additional routes across the city. Tram line number 20 was routed from the “Kharkiv-Pasazhyrskyi” railway station to European street, trolleybus line number 2 operated from Zhukovsky avenue to Constitution square, trolleybus line number 12 ran from Rudyka street to Central Park, and trolleybus line number 40 connected Central Park with Constitution square. A temporary bus route was established along Klochkivska street and Victory avenue, operating from European street to the “Victory avenue” turning loop.
