Russian Attacks Intensify in Kharkiv Region, Raising Civilian Concerns
Recent Russian attacks targeting the Kharkiv region have resulted in casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure, according to Ukrainian officials. The attacks, which utilized a mix of drones and guided aerial bombs, have impacted multiple settlements, prompting concerns for the safety of residents.
Recent Attacks and Casualties
Over the past 24 hours, nine settlements in the Kharkiv region were attacked by Russian forces, as reported by Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration. The attacks have led to both casualties and destruction of property.
In the village of Stary Saltov, a 77-year-old woman experienced an acute stress reaction due to the shelling. A woman was injured in Stary Saltov as a result of a drone strike, which also damaged a garage, five houses, and a car.
A separate attack in the village of Velikiy Burluk, Kupyansky district, resulted in the destruction of two garage boxes at a medical institution, causing a fire that covered an area of 100 square meters. A power line was also damaged in the incident, but no injuries were reported.
Tragically, one person was killed in the village of Shestakove due to Russian aviation bombing, and two women, aged 61 and 52, were injured and hospitalized.
Weapons Used in the Attacks
The attacks involved a variety of weaponry, including:
- Ten guided aerial bombs (CABs)
- Seven Shahed-238 (Geran-2) type UAVs
- Two FPV drones
- Eight UAVs (type to be determined)
Civil infrastructure in the Kupyansky, Izyumsky, Kharkivsky, Lozovsky, and Chuguevsky districts was targeted during the 24-hour period.
Territorial Changes
Analysts from the Deep State project have reported that Russian forces have made advances in two areas of the Kharkiv region: south of Volchansk and in Sinkovka, located in the Kupyansky direction. This follows a recent report from the American Institute for the Study of War indicating Ukrainian troop advancements in the Kupyansk direction.
Officials Involved
Oleh Syniehubov, the Governor of Kharkiv Oblast and head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, has been providing updates on the situation. He was appointed Governor of Kharkiv Oblast on December 24, 2021, after previously serving as Governor of Poltava Oblast.
Eduard Konovalov, the head of Stary Saltov, and Nadiya Antonova, the secretary of the Vilkhiv village council, were recently detained on suspicion of treason.
