Kharkiv Under Attack: Multiple casualties and Infrastructure Damage Reported

Kharkiv, Ukraine, came under attack by Russian drones on the evening of November 23, 2023, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries, and also important damage to the city’s infrastructure. Reports indicate a series of explosions across the city, particularly in the Saltovsky and Shevchenko districts.

Initial reports from Oleh Syniehubov,head of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration,indicated two casualties. Though, the number of confirmed deaths steadily rose throughout the evening. By 00:34 local time, Syniehubov reported a total of four fatalities: a 69-year-old woman was the latest confirmed death. At least 15 people were injured, including two children, with the latest figures reporting 15 individuals seeking medical attention.

Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov confirmed that a private house was struck by a Shahed drone in the Shevchenko district, contributing to the casualties. He later stated that a total of 15 strikes hit six locations within the city.

The attacks caused substantial damage to critical infrastructure. Terekhov reported that the energy infrastructure and heat supply network in Kharkiv were “seriously damaged,” specifically citing damage to a transformer substation and the complete destruction of three residential buildings.
