Konnan Hospitalized, Undergoes Leg Amputation
Wrestling legend Konnan is reportedly hospitalized in San Diego, California, and underwent a leg amputation due to medical complications, according to reports surfacing on Friday, March 7, 2026. Even as no official statement has been released, multiple sources have confirmed the news.
Reports of Amputation Confirmed by Mexican Media
The initial report came from Mexican sports outlet RECORD, citing columnist @elplanchitas. @elplanchitas confirmed that Carlos Santiago Espada, known as Konnan, had a leg amputated due to ongoing health issues. The columnist’s statement indicated Konnan had been dealing with health problems for some time.
RECORD Mexico reported: “Based on information from @elplanchitas, RÉCORD can confirm that the Cuban wrestler, Carlos Santiago Espada, better known as ‘Konnan’, has just undergone the amputation of his leg. Carlos is in delicate health in the United States. Much strength, Konnan!”
Long History of Health Issues
Konnan has faced a number of health challenges in recent years. He received a kidney transplant in 2007, but experienced kidney problems resurfacing in 2022, requiring dialysis. These issues stemmed from a severe bout of COVID-19 in February 2021. He similarly underwent heart surgery in January 2022. In December 2022, Konnan mentioned he had found a donor for another kidney transplant, but it remains unclear if that surgery took place. Fightful and Sportskeeda have also reported on his health struggles.
Current Condition and Lack of Official Statement
Reports indicate Konnan is in “delicate health” and there was initial, unconfirmed speculation regarding his passing, which was later refuted. 411Mania notes that some reports suggest the possibility of a second leg amputation due to his deteriorating condition. Though, these reports remain unconfirmed.
As of March 7, 2026, no official statement has been issued by Konnan or his representatives. Fightful reports that the information has not been independently confirmed.
