Korea University Medical Center (KUMC) is significantly investing in artificial intelligence (AI) and big data to enhance its precision medicine capabilities, as showcased at the HIMSS 2026 conference in Las Vegas. The medical center is collaborating with global technology companies to integrate cutting-edge medical technology and build a world-class digital hospital model.
Strategic Partnerships and Technological Advancements
KUMC engaged in discussions with industry leaders including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Oracle, Microsoft, Philips, and GE to explore strategies for advancing AI-based clinical systems and optimizing medical data utilization. These collaborations aim to strengthen connections within the global healthcare ecosystem and create a digital hospital model focused on practical improvements in patient care, research into rare and incurable diseases, and efficient hospital administration.1
Hybrid AI Infrastructure for Security and Efficiency
KUMC is implementing a hybrid AI infrastructure designed to balance security and efficiency. This infrastructure organically connects a central data center with field systems at affiliated hospitals, enabling rapid learning from medical data and its immediate application to treatment, research, administration, and management. A central AI hub, powered by NVIDIA’s next-generation GPUs, is located at the Jeongneung Medi Science Park data center.
To ensure safe and rapid AI services without relying on external cloud infrastructure, Anam, Guro, and Ansan hospitals have installed AI platforms based on Neural Processing Units (NPUs) for processing patient data analysis and real-time tasks.
LLMOps for Sustainable AI Development
KUMC operates a Large Language Model Operations (LLMOps) system with a continuous improvement cycle. This system transmits data generated at medical sites and feedback from medical staff to a central server for model retraining, and then redistributes the updated model to each hospital. This approach allows for the development and sustainable operation of an AI platform specifically optimized for the hospital environment.
AI Applications in Patient Care and Administration
KUMC is introducing several AI services to improve various aspects of healthcare:
- Medical Record Summarization: Automatically organizes and summarizes vast medical records, helping staff quickly identify patient conditions and provide accurate treatment.
- AI Chatbot: Provides information based on hospital regulations and clinical guidelines, increasing administrative efficiency.
- Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS): Supports real-time, accurate, and safe medical decision-making.
- Radiology AI: Utilizes image interpretation AI to analyze CT and MRI images for faster and more accurate disease detection.
- Voice-Based Electronic Medical Records: Automatically records and summarizes doctor-patient conversations, providing a comprehensive patient history for improved care.
Microsoft’s Dragon Copilot Integration
KUMC is also exploring new agentic AI capabilities, as demonstrated in discussions with Oracle officials at HIMSS 2026. Microsoft is showcasing its Dragon Copilot, unifying AI tools to save time, enhance patient care, and improve revenue integrity.3 The platform aims to provide AI insights directly within existing workflows, accessible wherever a user’s cursor is located.4
