Korean Women Lead Solo Travel Surge, Prioritize Safety and Family Experiences

Korean women are increasingly driving the growth in solo and family travel, according to a recent survey released on Wednesday. The trend highlights a shift in travel preferences, with safety and family-friendly options being key considerations for female travelers.

Survey Highlights Key Trends

A survey conducted by Trip.com Group, encompassing 3,500 women from Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Korea, Thailand, and the United Kingdom, revealed significant insights into women’s travel habits. The survey was released to coincide with International Women’s Day, observed annually on March 8.

Popular Destinations for Korean Women

Nearby cities, such as Shanghai and Qingdao, were particularly popular overseas destinations for Korean women in 2025. This suggests a preference for shorter-distance travel and familiar cultural environments.

Age and Spending Habits

Women aged 25 to 34 represented the largest demographic of solo travelers across all countries surveyed. Interestingly, the survey also indicated that older women, regardless of nationality, are more inclined to spend generously on their solo trips, particularly on flights and accommodations.

Safety Remains a Top Priority

Safety emerged as the paramount concern for women when selecting a travel destination. Factors such as feeling secure upon late-night arrivals and navigating cities comfortably were highly valued, although specific data on these preferences was not provided by Trip.com Group.

Family Travel and Willingness to Pay

Korean women also demonstrated a significant role in planning family trips and exhibited a greater willingness to invest in family-friendly travel options. These include features like family seating on airplanes, all-inclusive family packages, and larger family suites or connecting rooms.
