KPop Demon Hunters Sequel Confirmed with Original Directors Returning

After becoming Netflix’s most-watched title and garnering critical acclaim, including a Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature, KPop Demon Hunters is officially getting a sequel. Directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans are set to return, solidifying their partnership with Netflix through a multiyear writing and directing agreement.

A Global Phenomenon

KPop Demon Hunters, released on Netflix in June 2025, follows a Korean KPop trio, Huntrix, who balance their music careers with battling demons. The film has amassed over 540 million views on the streaming platform, surpassing previous Netflix hits like Red Notice, which has 230 million views The Ankler.

Directors Reflect on Success and Future Plans

“I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters,” Kang stated in a press release. “There’s so much more to this world we have built, and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning.”

Appelhans added, “These characters are like family to us, their world has turn into our second home. We’re excited to write their next chapter, challenge them, and watch them evolve — and continue pushing the boundaries of how music, animation, and story can come together.”

Netflix’s Commitment to the Franchise

“With KPop Demon Hunters, Maggie and Chris didn’t just reach audiences, they ignited a global fandom that crossed languages, generations, and genres,” said Bela Bajaria, Netflix Chief Content Officer Netflix Tudum. “We’re incredibly proud to deepen our partnership with them and, together with our partners at Sony Pictures Animation, build this universe in ways that will surprise and delight fans all over the world.”

Release Date

The KPop Demon Hunters sequel is currently slated for release on Netflix in 2029 Netflix Tudum. As the original film continues to perform exceptionally well, it may approach the billion-view mark by then.
