Kumho Resort Advances Sustainability with Bedding Upcycling and ESG Initiatives

Kumho Resort is strengthening its commitment to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles through the implementation of its “Bedding’s Second Journey: Green Loop 2.0” campaign across all its branches. This initiative focuses on upcycling discarded bedding into practical goods, promoting a resource virtuous cycle and offering sustainable options to customers.

Second Iteration of a Successful Campaign

Building on the success of the initial “Bedding Circular Travel” campaign in November of last year, Kumho Resort’s latest effort solidifies its dedication to ESG practices. The campaign represents a resource virtuous cycle, transforming used bedding into upcycled products for customer apply.

Collaboration with Consciousness for Innovative Upcycling

Kumho Resort has partnered with climate tech startup ‘Consciousness’ to produce a “recycled felt tissue case” utilizing upcycled waste bedding. These tissue cases are crafted from recycled felt materials derived from waste bedding fibers collected from the resorts, with over 90% of the material being recycled to maximize resource circulation.

Significant Environmental Impact

The first campaign successfully upcycled approximately 100 kg of waste bedding into ‘green felt storage boxes,’ resulting in a reduction of approximately 1.36 tons of greenhouse gases. This represents a 90% reduction in carbon emissions compared to conventional plastic products – equivalent to the annual carbon absorption of around 200 pine trees. Source

Expanding the Virtuous Cycle

Following these positive results, Kumho Resort formalized its partnership with ‘Consciousness’ in January of this year through a business agreement (MOU). This agreement aims to establish a continuous resource cycle by processing over 400 kg of waste bedding annually into recycled materials, reducing carbon emissions and water usage. The resulting materials are then transformed into everyday necessities for customers, fostering a sustainable travel experience.

Special Exhibition and Exclusive Offers

To promote the campaign, Kumho Resort is offering an ‘ESG Room Package’ through online platforms, with discounts of up to 30% compared to regular prices. The first special exhibition will be held on Lotte On from March 11th to 16th, followed by a second exhibition on Tripbitoz from March 16th to 22nd. The package stay period is from March 20th to May 31st. The first 300 guests starting in April will receive an exclusive campaign gift: a recycled felt tissue case.

Kumho Resort’s Commitment to Sustainable Relaxation

“Thanks to the resource circulation performance of the last campaign and the positive response from customers, we have decided to plan this second campaign,” stated an official from Kumho Resort. “Going forward, we will not stop at just a one-time campaign, but will practice resource circulation through various ESG activities and establish ourselves as a resort that provides the value of ‘sustainable relaxation.’” Source
