Kyiv, Ukraine – Russia has intensified its attacks on Kyiv, increasingly targeting residential areas with drones and missiles, resulting in civilian casualties and widespread damage. The attacks arrive as Ukraine continues to appeal to Western nations for stronger economic sanctions against Russia and bolstered air defense capabilities.
Recent Attacks and Casualties
On September 29, 2025, Russia launched a massive air attack on Kyiv, utilizing hundreds of drones and missiles, according to Ukrainian officials Taipei Times. At least four people were killed in the capital, including a 12-year-old girl, with the possibility of more fatalities as rescue operations continue Taipei Times. Neighboring Poland scrambled jets to secure its airspace in response to the attacks.
Earlier, on October 26, 2025, drone strikes hit four locations in Kyiv’s Desnianskyi, Obolonskyi, and Darnytskyi districts, specifically targeting residential areas Glavnoe. A Shahed drone struck a nine-story apartment building in the Desnianskyi district, destroying several floors and resulting in three deaths, including a mother and her 19-year-old daughter. Kyiv Military Administration Response
Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, has been providing updates on the attacks and coordinating rescue efforts.
