Los Angeles City Council to Honor Domingo Hindoyan with City Certificate
Los Angeles City Council Member Adrin Nazarian will honor Domingo Hindoyan with a City Certificate during a City Council presentation on Oct. 14. Hindoyan assumed his role as the new Richard Seaver Music Director of LA Opera in July.
The upcoming presentation pairs the official welcome with the recognition of October as Armenian Heritage Month. Nazarian cited Hindoyan’s Armenian heritage as a factor in his path to the podium. LA Opera President and CEO Christopher Koelsch is scheduled to join the proceedings, which will also feature musical and cultural performances by the Lark Musical Society and the Barekamutiun International Dance Studio.
Conductor Background and International Career
Born in Caracas, Hindoyan is an Armenian-Venezuelan conductor and violinist who began his studies as a violinist in Venezuela’s El Sistema program. He later earned a master’s degree in conducting from the Geneva University of Music.
His professional development reached a milestone in 2012 when he was selected for the Allianz International Conductors Academy. During that fellowship, he worked with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra under the mentorship of Esa-Pekka Salonen and Sir Andrew Davis.
Over the course of his career, Hindoyan has led performances at institutions, including the Metropolitan Opera, the Vienna State Opera, and with the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra. He has also held leadership positions as principal guest conductor of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra and chief conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
