Washington State women’s volleyball opens the weekend on the road at Boise State Thursday, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m. PT, and then returns home to host Fresno State Saturday, Oct. 17 at 12 p.m. PT. Both matches will be broadcast live on Pac-12 YouTube.

Washington State Travels to Boise State

The Cougars enter week four of conference play with a 7-8 record while dealing with a handful of injuries, relying on the resilience and depth of this squad. Entering the weekend positioned as the runner-up in the Pac-12 across all three categories, the squad maintains a nationally elite defensive profile by placing third in blocks per set alongside matching 31st-place marks in both total blocks and opponent hitting percentage.

The Cougars will be meeting Boise State for the 15th time in program history. Dating back to 1988 when Boise State secured its most recent victory against WSU, the Cougars have reeled off six consecutive wins in the head-to-head series. Boise State’s overall record is 12-6 with a 4-1 conference mark.

Naomi White Leads National Defensive Rankings

Senior middle blocker Naomi White anchors the Cougar defense at the net. Nationally, she stands seventh in blocks per set at 1.56 and 23rd in total blocks with 86, while pacing the Pac-12 in the former metric and placing second in the conference for the latter.

Following performances against LIU (9/5) and Oregon (9/6) where she accumulated 10 kills, a .308 hitting percentage, and 20.5 points coupled with averages of 2.3 blocks and 1.4 kills per set, White earned Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week recognition on Sept.

Fresno State Visits Bohler Gym

Following the road contest, Washington State returns to Pullman to host Fresno State on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 12 p.m. PT. WSU has played FSU seven times in program history, including their most recent match, a 3-0 Cougar sweep on Sept. 24, and are 2-5 over that span.

The match takes place at Bohler Gym, the premier volleyball-only venue on the West Coast. Since 1991, the venue has fostered a .634 winning percentage behind a 313-181 record, while boasting a .577 winning percentage with 373 wins against 273 losses going all the way back to the inaugural 1976 varsity season of WSU Volleyball.

Roster Composition and Statistical Trends

Washington State features a heavily revamped roster this season. Out of 17 total players on the Wazzu roster this year, 11 are newcomers, while the six returning student-athletes are all experiencing just their second campaign with the program.

Statistical milestones highlight the team’s defensive consistency:

  • Across 15 total outings this season, WSU has reached at least 8 blocks 13 times, including 7 matches with 12 or more blocks.
  • The Cougars have held their opponents to below a .135 hitting percentage six times.
  • Naomi White has notched 6+ total blocks in nine of the last 14 matches.
  • Audrey Hollis has recorded 3+ kills and 15+ assists in eight of the last ten matches.
  • Kryssa Moerman has recorded 4+ blocks in six of last ten games.
  • Whitney Dewicki has recorded three or more total blocks in five of the last six matches.
