La-Di-Da-Di Festival: A New Indie and Alternative Pop Event in Latvia

A new indie and alternative pop music event, “La-Di-Da-Di,” is set to take place on July 7th and 8th in the Green Theater of Mežapark, Latvia. Curated by DJ and music expert Toms Grēviņš, the festival aims to bring a European festival experience to the city.

Lineup and Artistic Vision

The festival’s initial lineup features the English post-folk rock orchestra Caroline and Swedish singer Jens Lekman, both making their Latvian debuts. Joining them are established Baltic acts: the Estonian dream pop group Pia Fraus and the Latvian-Danish production Aparats, who will reunite for a series of exclusive summer concerts.

Grēviņš, speaking about the festival’s concept, highlighted his desire to create a city music festival inspired by events across Europe. He expressed satisfaction with the inaugural program, emphasizing the blend of established artists with emerging talent and the inclusion of “Baltic indie classics” not commonly found at other festivals.

The Legacy of “La Di Da Di”

The festival’s name pays homage to the iconic 1985 hip-hop track “La Di Da Di,” performed by Doug E. Fresh and MC Ricky D (Slick Rick) [1]. The song is considered a foundational work in rap music, known for its innovative beatboxing and storytelling [2]. The original song was released as part of the album “The Show & La Di Da Di” in 1985 [4].
