La Lucente Achieves EcoVadis Platinum Rating: A Century of Sustainability and Innovation

La Lucente, a leading facility management company with over a century of history, has recently been awarded the prestigious EcoVadis Platinum recognition. This achievement places the company in the top 1% of businesses globally for its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance, highlighting a long-standing commitment to sustainability, innovation, and social responsibility.

A Legacy Rooted in Service

Founded in 1922 by Mario Volpe in Puglia, Italy, La Lucente began as a small cleaning service for local shop windows. Recognizing an evolving need, the company quickly expanded, driven by increasing demand and a growing client base. The economic boom of the 1950s and 60s further fueled growth, leading to the provision of professional cleaning services and expansion of its operational scope. By 1968, La Lucente secured its first significant public and private contracts, and in 1972, it transitioned into a joint stock company.

What is the EcoVadis Platinum Rating?

The EcoVadis Platinum rating represents the highest level of corporate sustainability assessment. It is awarded to companies demonstrating exceptional performance across four key areas: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. The evaluation considers certifications, publicly available sustainability reports aligned with international standards, and robust systems for monitoring emissions and energy consumption. EcoVadis provides sustainability ratings for global supply chains.

Beyond Environmental Impact: A Holistic Approach

The EcoVadis assessment extends beyond environmental factors, evaluating strategic areas of company management. This includes welfare programs, professional development opportunities, systems for protecting worker’s rights, and structured policies to prevent discrimination. La Lucente has also invested in innovation, integrating artificial intelligence (AI) tools for operational planning, data analysis, and quality control to enhance efficiency and service standards in a complex sector.

“The Coherence of a Strategy”

“The EcoVadis Platinum rating confirms the coherence of a strategy that over the years has integrated sustainability, innovation and social responsibility within our development model,” explains lawyer Saverio Francesco Ressa, advisor to La Lucente SpA. “It is not an episodic result, but the fruit of an industrial vision built over time and shared with all the people who function in the company.”

Growth and Impact

Today, La Lucente employs over two thousand people, operates on approximately one thousand construction sites throughout Italy, and generates a turnover exceeding 60 million euros. These figures reflect not only the company’s growth but also the strength of its governance and long-term strategic vision. Sustainability is not merely a competitive advantage for La Lucente; it is a core element of its identity.

A Historic Legacy with a Future Focus

Angelo Volpe, CEO of La Lucente, emphasizes the importance of preserving the company’s values although adapting to change. “Having been included in the Special Register of Historic Brands of National Interest represents a source of great pride for us, as well as a strong incentive to always do better to continue working at the service of the community as we have done for more than a hundred years. The longevity of a company depends on the ability to adapt to change without losing its values. After more than a century of activity, we continue to grow with this belief: to innovate, remaining faithful to our identity. This is why I sense I must thank all our collaborators, a founding part of the great Lucente family, without whom no achievement or recognition would be possible.”
