Falcons Fire Assistant Coach LaTroy Lewis Amid Sexual Assault Investigation

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The Atlanta Falcons have dismissed assistant defensive line coach LaTroy Lewis following allegations of sexual assault stemming from his time as a staff member at the University of Michigan. The Ann Arbor Police Department confirmed it is investigating the incident, which allegedly occurred on December 5, 2024.

Investigation Launched

The Ann Arbor Police Department stated it was “just recently made aware of allegations regarding a sexual assault” and launched an immediate investigation. Police spokesperson Chris Page confirmed Lewis is the suspect in the investigation. The Michigan Daily first reported the allegations.

Details of the Allegations

According to reports, the alleged victim met Lewis through a dating app in July 2024 and communication escalated to threats and demands for money. ESPN reports the woman told police Lewis was a coach at Michigan at the time of the alleged assault. The incident allegedly occurred at a hotel in Ann Arbor, where the woman was staying for a work function.

Report to Sherrone Moore and Response

The woman reported the alleged assault to former Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore the day after the incident. Her attorney, Karen Truszkowski, claims Moore did not report the assault as required by Title IX and allegedly attempted to pursue a relationship with the woman. The Detroit News reports Moore’s attorney denies these claims, stating Moore did not fail to report misconduct or harass anyone.

Lewis’ Response and Legal Representation

LaTroy Lewis, through his attorney Fabiola A. Galguera, intends to “fiercely fight these false allegations.” The Athletic reports Lewis’ attorney stated the facts of the case are not currently being presented to the public.

University of Michigan Statement

University of Michigan spokesperson Paul Corliss stated the allegations are “deeply concerning.” The university has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Sherrone Moore’s firing and a broader culture review of the athletic department. Corliss urged anyone with relevant information to contact the law firm conducting the investigation.

Previous Incidents and Career Path

Prior to joining the Falcons on February 10, Lewis was a graduate assistant and later assistant defensive line coach at Michigan from 2022 through early 2025. He briefly held positions at Toledo and Connecticut before joining the Falcons. Police in Milford, Michigan, responded to a separate incident involving Lewis and the same woman in January 2025, but closed the case due to a lack of evidence.

Ongoing Investigations

The Ann Arbor Police Department investigation remains active and ongoing. The woman involved has also initiated a personal protective order case against Lewis in Washtenaw County 22nd Circuit Court.
