Laura Fox and Brian Moran adopt the Fomos moniker

RTÉ presenter Laura Fox and her husband, Brian Moran, bypassed traditional naming conventions entirely after months of deadlock, adopting the portmanteau “the FOMOs” as their shared family moniker following a civil ceremony in Dublin in April and a second gathering in Rome in August.

The couple finalized their union through two distinct celebrations earlier this year, navigating a demanding calendar year that included a rapidly organized Dublin wedding and a subsequent Italian trip.

A Casual Tuesday in Dublin and Rome

The Dublin celebration came together rapidly after Fox sent an informal text message to a group chat consisting of close friends and family members. She asked who was available on a Tuesday in Dublin for a casual wedding followed by drinks and food. Fifty guests replied that they were free to attend. Organizing the subsequent Italian celebration proved equally fast-paced during a demanding calendar year.

Coining the FOMOs Over a Drink

Before settling on a family moniker, the pair debated traditional options. Fox preferred Fox while Moran favored his own surname. Combining the two names introduced another logistical hurdle regarding which name should precede the other. Fox rejected Moran’s suggestion of reversing the hyphenated sequence because she felt the alternative arrangement lacked a proper ring to it. She ultimately coined “the FOMOs”—referencing the acronym for the fear of missing out—following a drink one evening, noting that the label suited their shared enjoyment of social outings.

Ireland’s Fittest Family Returns

Beyond her wedding preparations, Fox appeared on the program to promote the upcoming fourteenth series of Ireland’s Fittest Family. The competition series returns to RTÉ One and the RTÉ Player on Sunday, November 1, at 6.30pm. Contestants for the new season feature a grandmother competing alongside her two sons and a grandson, as well as a 14-year-old participant who spent years waiting for eligibility.

Herding Kittens on Set

Fox compared keeping the coaches on track to herding kittens, pointing out that trainer Donncha O’Callaghan frequently wanders off during filming to find coffee. Staff members must map out nearby cafes in advance to track his movements on set.
