Liceo Virgilio-Redi Student Faces Defamation Complaint Over Social Media Post
A 17-year-old student at the Liceo Virgilio-Redi in Lecce is facing legal action following accusations made in a video posted on TikTok. The complaint, filed for aggravated defamation via the internet, stems from claims made about a chemistry teacher and the overall climate within the school. The preliminary hearing is scheduled to take place, where the student’s lawyer, Daniele Scala, intends to request a judicial pardon.
The Accusations
The incident dates back to September 8, 2025. The student, shortly before transferring to another school, posted a video – subsequently removed but included in the investigation – alleging that his chemistry teacher had manipulated electronic grade records to lower his average below a passing grade of 5. While the teacher was not explicitly named, the references were considered unequivocal.
The student’s statements extended beyond his personal experience, characterizing the school’s environment as “unprofessional” and suggesting that certain professor behaviors contributed to extreme emotional distress among students. A particularly contentious point, which prompted the school to pursue legal recourse, concerned the integrity of the teaching staff. Responding to comments on the post, the student wrote statements alluding to alleged corruption, stating, “Yes exactly, they proceed to sympathy (or to those who pay better sometimes) I hope we understand each other…”.
School’s Response and Legal Action
The complaints were filed by Liceo Virgilio-Redi Director Dario Cillo and the teacher in question, aiming to address the damage to the school’s reputation and the teacher’s personal standing. The school asserts that the statements have the potential to reach a wide audience, impacting the perception of the institution. Despite the student’s transfer to another school, the legal proceedings are ongoing.
Investigators are focusing on the denigrating nature of the statements, deeming them unfounded and intended solely to discredit the school. The case will now be evaluated by a judge to determine the minor’s responsibility and the potential acceptance of the rehabilitation path proposed by the defense.
