LEGO Super Mario Gets a Traditional Minifigure in 2027

LEGO and Nintendo are continuing their partnership with a significant update for LEGO Super Mario fans. Beyond the recently released LEGO Luigi Mario Kart set, LEGO has announced the arrival of new LEGO Super Mario sets in 2027, featuring a long-awaited addition: a traditional LEGO minifigure of Mario.

The Evolution of the LEGO Mario Figure

Since the launch of the interactive LEGO Super Mario series in 2020, fans have requested a Mario minifigure consistent in scale and design with other LEGO characters. Previously, the LEGO Super Mario line featured interactive figures with unique designs. LEGO has responded to this demand, unveiling the first seem at the new LEGO Mario minifigure.

The new minifigure boasts a design that respects LEGO’s standard scale and proportions while accurately capturing Mario’s iconic features, including his nose and mustache, attached to a rounder head. The development of this design presented a challenge for LEGO, balancing the need for accurate representation with the established LEGO aesthetic.

Expanding the LEGO Super Mario Universe

The introduction of traditional minifigures extends to other characters in the Super Mario universe. Link and Zelda from The Legend of Zelda, Tom Nook and Isabelle from Animal Crossing, and even Sonic the Hedgehog have all been reimagined as LEGO minifigures. Now, Super Mario and his friends and foes will join them in new sets launching in 2027.
