Lejla Abbasova Details 15-Year-Old Son David’s Struggle with Video Games
Czech media personality Lejla Abbasova has opened up about a challenging period with her 15-year-old son, David, who spent excessive time playing video games during a prolonged recovery from a broken leg. The situation escalated to the point where the teenager’s behavior shifted, leaving him irritable and unpleasant toward his family until professional intervention led to a digital detox.
The crisis began in the spring when David broke his leg during a ski training course, requiring him to wear a cast up to his waist. Confined to long weeks at home with online schooling, her partner set up a gaming corner featuring a chair, a screen, and headphones to keep the teenager occupied. What started as a distraction quickly spiraled out of control. Abbasova recounted that by the time doctors removed the cast two months later, her son resembled a walking zombie with atrophied muscles, erratic moods, and a detachment from reality. She described him as irritable and unpleasant to his siblings and herself.
Professional Guidance and Immediate Digital Detox
Recognizing that she could no longer manage the escalating household tension alone, Abbasova consulted her psychologist, who advised a strict and immediate intervention. Following this professional counsel, she confiscated her son’s mobile phone and cut off his internet access. The removal of digital devices triggered intense reactions. Abbasova said that David begged and pleaded for his devices back, noting that it genuinely felt like taking a drug away from him and that he was frantic. She admitted that without constant phone support from her psychologist, she would not have managed the ordeal.
Despite the intense pushback, Abbasova stood her ground and refused to return the devices. Today, she maintains confidence in that decision. The turning point came during a subsequent family holiday, which helped. David gradually reconnected with his interests, resumed playing sports, and returned to his role as a caring older brother to his three younger siblings: nine-year-old Iman and eight-year-old twins Tea and Ben, whom Abbasova shares with her Turkish partner Volkan. David’s father is musician Michael Kocáb.
Strict Family Rules on Technology
The behavioral fallout from her oldest son’s confinement has shaped how Abbasova manages household technology. She enforces a strict household policy regarding digital media. None of her children own a mobile phone or have open access to the internet. Abbasova explained that they have always prioritized keeping their children away from the online world. The spring crisis cemented her resolve to shield her younger children from uncontrolled screen time.
