Lil Poppa Dies at 25: Rapper’s Cause of Death Revealed
Rapper Lil Poppa, whose real name was Janarious Mykel Wheeler, has died at the age of 25. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed his death on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 11:23 a.m.
Cause of Death Confirmed as Suicide
Initial reports did not disclose the cause of death. However, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office has since ruled the death a suicide, caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. WWNYTV and FOX Carolina both reported the findings.
Rising Star with Collective Music Group
Lil Poppa, originally from Jacksonville, Florida, was signed to Yo Gotti’s Collective Music Group (CMG). He gained recognition for his hit songs including “Love & War,” “Mind Over Matter,” and “HAPPY TEARS.” He released his album “Almost Normal Again” in August and, as recently as February 13, 2026, released the single “Out of Town Bae.”
CMG’s Response and Upcoming Performances
Collective Music Group released a statement expressing their grief, referring to Lil Poppa as a “dear family member” and pledging to honor his legacy with respect. KGNS reported on the record company’s statement.
Lil Poppa was scheduled to perform in New Orleans next month, but that performance will no longer seize place.
