Lim Woo-il Cosplay Controversy: Is It Too Wrong?

[TV리포트=이태서 기자] Comedian Lim Woo-il was enraged by the controversy surrounding commoner cosplay.

Recently, a shorts video titled ‘Commoner’s cosplay for show?’ was posted on the channel ‘B-Class Studio’. In the released video, Lim Woo-il said, “I don’t like cars, and I don’t like clothes,” and said that he has no material desires. In response, Nam Ho-yeon pushed Lim Woo-il, saying, “Wait a minute. You don’t have any greed for money or cars. You changed to Genesis not long ago, right?” Lim Woo-il said, “Everyone is surprised when I say Genesis. The car I drove before didn’t close the right window,” making Lim Woo-il laugh.

Nam Ho-yeon continued to spread fake news by saying, “I heard that Woo-il hyung cosplays as a commoner to show off his character because of his closeness. He has a Ferrari and a Lamborghini behind him.” In response, Lim Woo-il lamented, “Why is it so wrong for me to buy a used car for 20 million won? (What can you say?) Is it so wrong to buy a used car for 20 million won at the age of 43? If it were the Joseon Dynasty, you would have been deceased. You can’t buy it at 43. You can buy it.”

At the same time, Nam Ho-yeon made fun of Lim Woo-il again, saying, “I hope you do well. I hope you do better. But why are you cosplaying like a beggar? Why are you cosplaying as a commoner?” and made everyone laugh. After clearing up the overheated atmosphere, Choi Seong-min asked Lim Woo-il, “What did you ride when you came today?” Lim Woo-il replied, “I came on a motorcycle.” Choi Sung-min once again heated up the atmosphere and devastated the scene by asking Lim Woo-il, “Why did you come on a motorcycle and not a Genesis?”

Lim Woo-il was a comedian from KBS’s 26th open recruitment in 2011, and has recently greatly increased his recognition by appearing on various sketch comedy channels, and has reached a new peak by appearing on MBC’s ‘I Live Alone’.
