Joint defensive readiness centers significantly on the Suwalki Gap, which serves as a vital 100-kilometer boundary linking Poland and Lithuania and keeping Belarus apart from Kaliningrad, the Russian enclave.
Border Closures and Evacuation Measures
Under the developing contingency framework, Lithuania plans to close its borders to civil servants and individuals subject to military mobilization if war breaks out with Russia. According to reports detailing the national plans, this measure aims to prevent government officials and draft-eligible citizens from fleeing while authorities manage civilian evacuations across the Suwalki Gap. Vilmantas Vitkauskas, head of Lithuania’s National Crisis Management Center, stated that Vilnius and Warsaw are working on a bilateral agreement that should become the basis for implementing these plans, as reported by The Telegraph.
Lithuania has developed a comprehensive population evacuation plan to address potential military threats. In support of these initiatives, Poland’s Podlaskie Voivodeship is organizing logistical pathways to function as a passage route for people leaving the Baltic nations. Joint Military and Emergency Drills
To test these operational measures, approximately 20 Polish personnel have joined local exercises alongside roughly 3,000 Lithuanian emergency workers and 1,000 volunteers, according to The Telegraph.
