LIV Golf Liquidates Assets After Collapse of Restructuring Plan

LIV Golf is shutting down operations and liquidating its assets after a planned $300 million investment fell through, Sports Illustrated reported. Lawyers for the tour announced the decision during a bankruptcy court proceeding in New Jersey, stating that restructuring plans have been abandoned.

The collapse follows a decision by BC Partners Credit to withdraw its planned investment. The tour had previously lost its funding source in April when the Saudi Public Investment Fund said it was halting its financial support for the league, which was reported to be $1 billion annually. LIV subsequently announced plans in August for a revamped 2027 season featuring fewer tournaments and player equity instead of the hefty salaries the tour had become known for.

Jon Rahm and Defector Returns Face Uncertain PGA Tour Path

The sudden closure leaves dozens of signed players without a competition home, while their potential path back to the PGA Tour remains narrow. The PGA Tour offered a Returning Member Program in January, giving defectors a chance to bypass a one-year suspension by making a $5 million donation to charity and forfeiting equity in the Tour. Brooks Koepka accepted the terms, but other high-profile players declined.

LIV Golf Is Shutting Down And Liquidating Assets

Jon Rahm, who rejected the proposed LIV 2.0 structure, stated at the DP World Tour’s Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship that he would probably accept the penalties if offered the same return plan as Koepka. PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp has stated that the tour does not plan to reintroduce the Returning Member Program, leaving players to manage individual tour memberships.

Bryson DeChambeau Faces DP World Tour Deadline

Unlike Rahm, DeChambeau has never been a member of the DP World Tour and has until November 16 to apply for membership. The PGA Tour previously extended him one of the handful of invitations to return before last season, despite DeChambeau being one of 11 LIV Golf players who filed an antitrust lawsuit against the PGA Tour in 2022.

Players Seek Membership on Traditional Circuits After Liquidation

What happens to the players who signed contracts for the canceled 2027 season?

More than 30 players had signed to take part in the 2027 season, but the liquidation leaves those plans uncertain. Players must now seek membership on traditional circuits such as the DP World Tour or apply for reinstatement to the PGA Tour.

Can Patrick Reed rejoin the PGA Tour immediately?

Patrick Reed left LIV Golf and spent the 2026 season playing on the DP World Tour. He will be able to return to the PGA Tour in 2027.

Who among the top LIV golfers accepted the PGA Tour’s return offer?

Brooks Koepka was the only one to accept the PGA Tour’s Returning Member Program in January, which required a $5 million donation to charity and the forfeiture of equity in the Tour.
