LIV Golf Louisiana Event Postponed, Future of League Funding Questioned
Modern Orleans, LA – LIV Golf’s planned event in Louisiana, scheduled for June 25th at Bayou Oaks in City Park, has been postponed, citing the league’s “changing business model.” This decision comes amid renewed scrutiny regarding LIV Golf’s financial stability following reports of the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) pulling future funding. Yahoo Sports reported on the postponement Monday, with an official announcement expected Tuesday.
Funding Concerns and PIF’s Role
Earlier this month, speculation arose that LIV Golf might cease operations due to funding shortages after the PIF reportedly withdrew its commitment to future investment. However, LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil asserted that the league is fully funded through the remainder of the 2026 season. According to Yahoo Sports, O’Neil stated, “The reality is you’re funded through the season and then you work like crazy as a business to create a business and a business plan to preserve us going.”

Louisiana’s Investment and Agreement
The state of Louisiana had committed nearly $7 million to host the LIV Golf event. This included approximately $2 million earmarked for course improvements at Bayou Oaks and $5 million in hosting fees. As The Athletic reported, Louisiana Secretary of Economic Development Susan Bourgeois and O’Neil discussed the situation on Friday, leading to the agreement to postpone the event.
Financial Reconciliation with Louisiana
Under the agreement, LIV Golf will return $1.2 million already received from the state. The $2 million spent on improvements to Bayou Oaks will be considered an acceptable investment in a state asset. The state reportedly has provisions in place to reclaim funds if the event were to be canceled outright. Yahoo Sports indicates the event may be rescheduled for the fall.
Broadcast Partnership
Despite the funding concerns, LIV Golf recently announced a new broadcast partnership with Sony Pictures Networks India for the 2026 season. LIV Golf stated this partnership will expand the league’s reach to a significant new audience.
The situation remains fluid as LIV Golf navigates its financial challenges and seeks to solidify its long-term viability.
