The current yellow alert for “ordinary criticality” regarding thunderstorms covers several specific sectors. Residents in the following areas should prepare for potential heavy rainfall and localized flooding:
- Bassa pianura centro-orientale (Central-eastern lowlands)
- Bassa pianura orientale (Eastern lowlands)
- Laghi e Prealpi orientali (Eastern lakes and foothills)
- Alta pianura orientale (Eastern high plains)
While the remainder of Sunday is characterized by weakly unstable conditions, ARPA Lombardia forecasts a gradual intensification of storm activity as the night progresses. Scattered downpours and lightning are expected, particularly affecting the eastern pre-Alpine and lowland regions.
Monday Forecast and Wind Hazards
The instability is expected to persist into the early hours of Monday, July 20. Meteorologists anticipate that the most significant storm activity will likely focus on the central-eastern reliefs and the lowland plains during the overnight hours.
The storm system should begin to dissipate by Monday morning, though the respite will be temporary. Secondary waves of scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely to redevelop across Alpine and pre-Alpine sectors during the afternoon and evening. Furthermore, ARPA Lombardia warns of potential wind gusts ranging between 45 and 55 km/h, most likely in the eastern piedmont and lowland areas during the night and early morning hours.
