Lotta Schelin Knocked Down in Electric Scooter Collision in Stockholm

Former Swedish national football team star Lotta Schelin suffered a concussion after being struck by an electric scooter while jogging in Stockholm on a Sunday evening in October 2026, Expressen reported. Schelin, who was in the capital to work as an expert commentator for SVT during the women’s national team matches against Lithuania, was running on a pedestrian path when the accident occurred.

The Collision on the Stockholm Pedestrian Path

The impact threw the former striker backward, causing her to strike her head directly against the asphalt.

“Everything went so unbelievably fast, he came at such high speed,” Schelin told Expressen. “I fly backward and it ends up with me hitting my head straight down into the asphalt. I got a few hits to the body too, but it was the head that was worst.”

Schelin stated that she realized immediately the driver could not or would not stop, prompting her to try to step back and throw out her hands before the collision. The rider of the electric scooter emerged uninjured and was apologetic, according to Schelin.

Medical History and Recovery After the Concussion

The head injury triggered immediate concern due to Schelin’s medical history. During her professional football career, she suffered from severe migraines and long-term neck and head problems, which ultimately forced her to retire in 2018.

“Considering my history, I also got damn scared, what would this blow to the head mean?” Schelin told Expressen.

While she did not require hospital treatment, she consulted her physician and took a conservative approach to her recovery, confirming to Expressen that she sustained a mild concussion. The injury forced her to withdraw from her scheduled television expert duties for the national team’s return leg against Lithuania at Strawberry Arena.

Schelin Files Police Report over Electric Scooter Hazards

Schelin has filed a police report regarding the incident. She noted that the decision to involve law enforcement was driven largely by the need to document such accidents.

“Not least for the sake of statistics, when I spoke to the concussion expert and physiotherapist, they immediately said that this was hardly the first accident with an electric scooter,” Schelin told Expressen.

While acknowledging the convenience of the vehicles, she pointed to their rapid acceleration and high speeds as significant hazards in pedestrian areas when riders lack sufficient traffic awareness.
