About the movie:
Feature film Lotus, which had its national premiere in April 2025, is a non-historical costume film where mysticism intertwines with humor and absurdity becomes reality. The events of the film take place in an imaginary 1919 in Latvia, and are fictional, not historical events. In the 1920s, Countess Väcbalti Alice von Trott returns to Latvia to claim her inheritance, but accidentally falls into the clutches of a secret and terrible cult. Trying to regain her freedom, she discovers the magic of cinema and becomes a pioneer of silent film. The plot, full of mysticism and irony, challenges the boundaries between film and life, interweaving quotes from world cinema masterpieces and director Signe Birkova’s love for early cinema.
