LPDP Investigates Husband of Viral Awardee Over Contribution Obligations

Jakarta – The Indonesian Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP) is investigating AP, the husband of Dwi Sasetyaningtyas (DS), an LPDP alumnus whose statement about her children’s citizenship sparked public debate. The investigation centers on allegations that AP has not fulfilled his contribution obligations following the completion of his studies, as reported by DetikNews on February 21, 2026.

Background of the Case

The controversy began after DS posted a video on Instagram showing her child receiving British citizenship. She stated, “It’s enough for me to be an Indonesian citizen, not my children,” prompting widespread discussion about national identity and obligations to Indonesia. While DS has completed her required contribution period after completing her Master’s degree in 2017, scrutiny has turned to her husband, AP, who is also an LPDP alumnus.

LPDP’s Response and Potential Sanctions

LPDP has summoned AP for clarification and is prepared to take action, including potential sanctions and the recovery of all scholarship funds, if he is found to be in violation of the contribution requirements. According to LPDP regulations, all awardees and alumni are required to contribute their services to Indonesia for a period equal to twice the duration of their studies plus one year.

“LPDP is committed to enforcing the rules fairly, consistently and responsibly to all awardees and alumni, as well as continuing to maintain the integrity of the institution in providing maximum benefits for Indonesia,” stated LPDP officials.

Legislative Oversight

Lalu Hadrian, Deputy Chairman of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), has called for a firm and fair enforcement of LPDP contracts. He emphasized that the scholarship funds are sourced from public funds and that recipients are obligated to contribute back to Indonesia. Hadrian stressed the importance of accountability in the management of state education funds and urged the government to use this situation as an opportunity to evaluate and strengthen the monitoring and enforcement of LPDP contracts.

Further Investigation

LPDP is currently conducting an internal investigation into the allegations against AP. The outcome of this investigation will determine the specific actions taken.
