The event, held at the Knockbridge Community Centre, drew strong community support for local cancer care services.

A Delightful Afternoon for a Vital Cause

Attendees enjoyed a delightful afternoon tea complete with sandwiches and cakes, accompanied by live music and an exciting raffle. The event aimed to raise vital funds for equipment, research, and clinical trials at the North East oncology centre in Drogheda. Donations are still being accepted online for those unable to attend.

About NECRET and Drogheda Oncology Services

The North East Cancer Research & Education Trust (NECRET) was established in 2005 to improve facilities for cancer patients utilizing the northeast oncology unit at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. The Oncology Unit operates as a multi-disciplinary team, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, dieticians, and support staff, all dedicated to delivering high-quality care in a friendly environment.

NECRET also provides significant funding for cancer research, led by experts like Consultant Medical Oncologist Dr. Bryan Hennessy, who is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Research focuses on improving cancer treatments and increasing cure rates. Professor Hennessy is an international leader in the application of reverse phase protein arrays (RPPA) for quantitative protein profiling to interrogate predictive and prognostic markers in breast, colon and other cancers.

Supporting Local Cancer Care

The success of events like the Mad Hatters Tea Party highlights the strong community commitment to supporting cancer care services in the North East region. Funds raised by NECRET directly benefit patients and contribute to advancements in cancer research and treatment. NECRET also organizes events like a “Message of Hope” service available during the Christmas and New Year period.
