ARUNDEL, Maine — A Maine family is navigating a difficult journey as their 22-month-old son, Braeden Bergeron, battles Hirschsprung disease, a rare congenital condition affecting the colon. Recent complications have added to the family’s emotional and financial strain.
Understanding Hirschsprung Disease
Hirschsprung disease is a condition present at birth that affects the large intestine (colon). It occurs when nerve cells are missing in parts of the colon, preventing the normal passage of stool 1. Braeden’s Battle
Braeden was born with Hirschsprung disease, and his mother, Kelsee Jacobs, noticed symptoms early on.
