The discotheque in Malenice has been operated since 1991 by Luboš Šrámek, who still runs the business in Prachaticko today. “Malenice really lived then, there wasn’t a weekend when there wasn’t dancing,” he recalls. In addition to classic discos and disco balls, famous bands such as Arakain or Parkán also appeared on stage. And there were also familiar faces from the media. For example, Leoš Mareš visited the Šumava village.
In addition, the program was enlivened by themed events, foam or plush parties, which added playfulness to the evenings. “We tried so that everyone could take away an experience, not just a few songs,” points out Šrámek, who considers the Olympic band’s annual tour to be the highlight of the entire era. “That was an unforgettable evening. People sang, danced and the atmosphere was electrifying,” recalls the operator at the time, who stopped organizing small discos about fifteen years ago.
The era of full parquet floors and late-night homecomings died down for a while, but today the young generation is pumping blood into the veins of the legendary place, and the ancient glory is reviving in a modern rhythm. Thanks to Vít Hrůnk, Malenice is back on the map of social events. The idea to restore the discotheques arose in the summer of 2024, and since then about ten dance evenings have taken place in the hall of the cultural center.
The organizer bet on a modern concept combining free dance with the popular dance game Just Dance. Visitors can not only dance, but also compare their dancing skills with each other. The capacity of the hall is approximately 300 people and, according to Vít Hrůnk, there is a lot of interest in the events. “Each disco has been fully occupied so far, which of course makes us extremely happy and motivates us for further work,” he confirms.
Another opportunity to dance will be offered by the upcoming Valentine’s party, which will be the eleventh event of the organizing team of KD Malenice. “We want Malenice to once again become a place where people like to return for fun and shared experiences,” adds Vít Hrůnek.
