New on the outside AirTag 2 it looks exactly the same, i.e. a round button with a white body. The only visual difference is in the updated text around the bitten apple logo. Apple mentions that the new AirTag is 7% heavier, but in practice the difference is not even a whole gram, so you wouldn’t know it. So what has changed is the functionality, which is the main issue here.

AirTag does not differ in appearance from the previous generation. It’s the same size, just less than a gram heavier.

Apple AirTag is part of the Find My network, the first time you pair it, you just set which object will be part of it, whether it is keys, a wallet, a backpack, a purse or something else. The appropriate icon will then appear on the map, so that you can quickly identify which AirTag it is. Through the application, you can track its location, set it to lost mode, so that the finder receives all the information and possible contact to you.

In the Find My application, you can track several AirTags at the same time, if you set their location near the keys, in a backpack or another place, the corresponding icon will also be displayed on the map for better clarity.

But the most frequently used is the search, when you can turn on the sound signaling, or start a local search, when thanks to UWB technology you can see the distance and direction where the lost AirTag is located. Thanks to the IP67 certification, it doesn’t even mind water, so you can find it submerged in, for example, a puddle of water.

Greater reach for easier finding

The last two functions have been improved. The AirTag got a stronger speaker, so if the sound signal is heard, you can easily hear it even if you have it with the keys thrown in the closet in your backpack, and I never heard it overheard in the apartment. The 2nd generation UWB chip used, which brings a 50% longer range, deserves even more praise. Instead of 10, the lost AirTag can be traced up to a distance of 15 meters. And what I can confirm, he is less bothered by the walls in the apartment.

Thanks to the 2nd generation UWB chip with a longer range, the new AirTag can display distance and direction within a local search up to 15 meters, which was not possible with the first generation. It also works much better through walls, so I found the AirTag even through the whole apartment.

While the previous AirTag was hidden on the other side of the apartment, I did not see it in the application and I had to come to a specific room, with the new one I can see the found AirTag in the application even through the entire apartment and the walls. Just need to add that advanced search works with iPhone 15 and newer (except model 16e).

It gets along better with the Apple Watch

Here I will praise the improved Apple Watch support. In addition to searching on the map and turning on the sound signal, it finally supports local search using UWB, which with its predecessor only worked with a phone. The watch will show the distance and the direction in which to go after the lost AirTag. The only requirement is to have an Apple Watch Series 9 or Ultra 2 and later with watchOS 26.2.1 installed.

A new feature of the 2nd generation is the ability to search for AirTag locally using the Apple Watch.

One AirTag costs CZK 790, but you can save by buying a pack of 4 for CZK 2,690. You can also buy a key ring made of FineWoven material, which will cost 990 CZK.

The good news is that the life of the 2nd generation AirTag has remained the same – still a great 12 months. A replaceable CR2032 battery is used for power supply. Together with the AirTag, you will receive a Duracell battery already included.

The Apple AirTag 2nd generation is sold at a price of CZK 790 per piece, or you can go for a cheaper package of 4 pieces for CZK 2,690. If you buy directly from Apple, you can even have any inscription, character or emoji generated on the body of the AirTag.
