Shaiful Ridzwan Abdul Razak Faces Six Charges After Marina Bay High-Speed Chase
A 43-year-old Singaporean man with three prior convictions of driving without a licence was handed six charges following an early-morning high-speed police chase in the Marina Bay area, The Straits Times reported. Shaiful Ridzwan Abdul Razak purportedly sped away from a routine police check in a Mercedes-Benz along Raffles Boulevard at roughly 3:00 AM on Oct 25, initiating a pursuit that ended with multiple collisions and injuries to a civilian motorist.
Marina Bay Police Chase and Collision Details
Patrolling officers approached the Mercedes-Benz for checks on Oct 25, prompting the driver to inch forward and force officers to step aside before fleeing, according to a police statement released on Oct 26. During the ensuing chase across Marina Boulevard, Sheares Avenue, and Marina Link, the vehicle ran multiple red lights. The suspect later stopped behind another car at a traffic light junction in Bayfront Avenue. When a police patrol car pulled alongside, the driver attempted to force his way between the two stationary vehicles. The maneuver struck the driver’s door of the police car and the rear right bumper of the civilian car. The driver of the civilian vehicle sustained back pain and received three days of medical leave. Authorities seized the Mercedes-Benz shortly after the incident.
Court Charges and Prior Convictions
On Oct 27, the court handed Shaiful six distinct charges. These include causing hurt to a civilian motorist by dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident, driving without a valid licence, failing to stop when ordered by a uniformed police officer, using a vehicle without insurance coverage, and failing to render assistance after an accident. Court documents reveal that Shaiful was previously convicted of driving without a licence on March 28, 2002, and Nov 1, 2006. He received another conviction for inconsiderate driving and driving without a licence on Nov 23, 2020. Court files omit specific details and punishments regarding those prior rulings.
Upcoming Bail Review and Legal Penalties
Shaiful’s bail review is scheduled for Nov 3. Legal penalties for the offenses vary by severity. Causing hurt by dangerous driving carries a potential jail term of up to two years, a fine of up to $10,000, or both. Driving without a valid licence as a first-time offender carries up to three years in prison, a fine of up to $10,000, or both.
