Manchester Orchestra Drummer Tim Extremely Dies at 42
Timothy Very, the longtime drummer for the Atlanta-based indie rock band Manchester Orchestra, has died at the age of 42. The band announced his sudden passing on Saturday, February 14, 2026, via social media.
A Profound Loss for Manchester Orchestra
“The entire Manchester Orchestra family has been devastated by the sudden passing of our brother, Timothy Very. The most beloved human being any of us were lucky enough to know in this life,” the band shared in a statement posted on Instagram according to The Independent. Bandmates Andy Hull, Robert McDowell, and Andy Prince expressed their disbelief and remembered Very as a kind and warm individual.
The statement continued, highlighting Very’s infectious laugh, his ability to make others feel welcome, and his foundational role in the band’s community. “His humor and energy were the very foundation that held together the entire MO universe. Strangers quickly became friends and friends became family,” the band wrote.
Very’s Musical Journey with Manchester Orchestra
Very joined Manchester Orchestra in 2011, following the departure of Jeremiah Emond. Rolling Stone notes that he became the group’s longest-serving drummer, dedicating 15 years to the band. He first performed live with the band in Camden, London, in 2011.
Throughout his tenure, Very contributed to three of the band’s studio albums: Cope (2014), A Black Mile to the Surface (2017), and The Million Masks of God (2021). He also played on the 2023 EP, The Valley of Vision. Newsweek reported on the band’s full statement.
Very spoke of his approach to drumming, stating, “I’d like to think I bring something that’s not just drums and grooves, but an understanding of what the song should or could have to make it better. I’d like to exit my mark on it to help make it better.”
A Loving Family Man
The band’s statement also emphasized Very’s devotion to his family. “The only thing Tim loved more than creating music was being with his family. You’d be pressed to find a more joyful dad,” they shared.
The cause of death has not been disclosed.
