Mayweather’s Reported Pay Angers Wrestlers

The claim that Floyd Mayweather was paid $20 million has been largely disproven, even by people within the wrestling company. However, the idea initially upset many wrestlers, both current and former.

This reaction is understandable. Ric Flair, who is ending a career spanning over 35 years in just a few weeks, likely earned between $13 and $16 million over his entire career (and spent most of it). He was not only one of the greatest performers of all time, a record-setting world champion, but also headlined more live events drawing over 10,000 fans than anyone except Hulk Hogan. Wrestling isn’t always fair, and Flair likely would have earned more if he had started his career 25 years later. But the $20 million figure really shows how much the business has changed.
