Latvia’s March Arts Calendar: Music Awards, Performances, and Exhibitions

March in Latvia promises a vibrant cultural landscape, with events ranging from prestigious music awards to theatrical performances and art exhibitions. This guide provides an overview of key happenings throughout the month, offering something for every artistic taste.

Grand Music Awards 2025

The Grand Music Awards 2025 ceremony will be held on March 6 at the Cēsis Concert Hall. Tickets are available through Biļešu Paradīze. The concert program features Arturs Maskats and Andris Sējāns, and the ceremony will be hosted by actors Diāna Krista Stafecka and Aksels Aizkalns. Performers include violinist Gidons Kremers, cellist Magdalēna Ceple, singers Katrīna Paula Felsberga, Inna Kločko, Mārtiņš Šmaukstelis with pianist Ilze Ozoliņa, the duo Zanda Švėde and Reinis Zariņš, and a choir. Orchestras Riga and Sinfonietta Rīga will also participate, alongside other outstanding musicians. The ceremony will be broadcast live on LTV1.

Theatrical Performances

“The Flower. Bear. Epiphanies”

Starting March 6, a fresh concert performance, “The Flower. Bear. Epiphanies,” will be staged at Daile Music House. Director Elīna Gediņa describes the production as a celebration of everyday life, inspired by the work of Imants Ziedonis and Kārlis Lācis. LSM.lv reports that singers Aija Andrejeva and Aija Vītoliņa, actors Aminata Grieta Diarra and Kaspars Znotiņš will star in the production.

“Lot from the Inventors’ Village”

Based on the popular Estonian book by Andrus Kivirehkas, a play adaptation of “Lot from the Inventors’ Village” will premiere on March 6 at the Puppet Theater. The dramaturgy is by Klāvs Mellis, and the music is composed by Renārs Kaupers. The play is set in a village where inventors are constantly experimenting.

Musical Performances

Lauris Reiniks – 100% Lauris Reiniks

Singer and TV host Lauris Reiniks will commence his Latvian tour with a concert on March 7 at the VEF Culture Palace. The tour, titled “100% Lauris Reiniks,” will feature the singer’s most popular hits and previously unreleased songs. He will be accompanied by a music group, vocalists Marta Kukarane-Fabricius and Anita Kārkliņa, and dancers. Special guests are also promised. Concerts are scheduled in Ulbrok, Ventspils, Valmiera, Rēzekne, Liepāja, and Jelgava.

Raymond Paul: Seasons. Spring

Continuing the “Raymond Paul. Seasons” song cycle, a concert dedicated to spring will be held on March 9 at the VEF Culture Palace. Popular and lesser-known songs by Maestro Raymond Paul will be performed by Uģis Roze, Elza Rozentāle, Atis Auzāns, Ieva Sutugova, and Normunds Zušs. The ARMMasterdancers and a mixed choir, The World, will also participate.

Art Exhibition

“Imaginative Melancholy”

An exhibition of portraits by Aleksandra Belcova (1892–1981), titled “Imaginative Melancholy,” is on display at the Roman Suta and Aleksandra Belcova Museum in Riga (Elizabetes Street 57A). The exhibition explores the history of melancholy in art and features both known and previously unexhibited portraits by the artist, characterized by a mood of light sadness. Featured is the painting “Actress Anta Klints (1932).”
