Mary Lou Rittman: A Life of Service and Community

Mary Lou Nolting Rittman, a longtime resident of Seymour, Indiana, and Naples, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at the age of 96. Throughout her life, Rittman dedicated herself to her family, her faith, and her community through decades of work in banking and active involvement in local organizations.

Early Life and Career

Born on March 16, 1930, in Columbus, Indiana, Mary Lou was the daughter of Ralph O. And Katie L. (Voelz) Nolting. She married Alfred E. Rittman on September 7, 1952. Rittman embarked on a fulfilling career in banking, beginning with six years at Irwin Union Bank in Columbus, Indiana. She then spent five years at Jackson County Bank in Seymour, Indiana, before dedicating twenty-two years to Citizens State Bank in Brownstown, Indiana, prior to her move to Naples, Florida.

Community Involvement and Faith

Rittman was an active member of her community throughout her life. In Naples, she was a choir member at Faith Lutheran Church. She was previously involved with Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour. Her commitment to service extended to her involvement with the VFW #7721 Auxiliary of Golden Gate, Florida, and the American Legion #135 of Naples, Florida.

Family and Legacy

Mary Lou Rittman is survived by her son, Michael (Debra) Rittman; her daughters, Tina Espiritu; her grandchildren, Tiffany (Todd) East, Nathan (Jamie) Rittman, Michelle (Rowe) Hudson, and Mary (Sebastian) Saitta; her great-grandchildren, Kelian and Kelis East, Anna and Sara Hudson; step-great-grandchildren, Jessy and Jake; and several nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred E. Rittman, who passed away on April 23, 2015, as well as her parents and siblings, Katharyne Baute and Robert Nolting.

Visitation and Funeral Services

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Voss & Sons Funeral and Cremation Service, located at 316 N. Chestnut Street, Seymour, Indiana. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM at the same location, with Rev. Dr. Ralph Blomenberg officiating. Rittman will be laid to rest at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Lutheran Hour, Lutheran Layman’s League, or Faith Lutheran Church. Voss Funeral Service provides an online register book and space for condolences.
